Hawaiian Independence Alliance (which later changed its name to Hawaiian Independence Action Alliance) is a newly formed consortium of organizations and individuals who have agreed to rally around two specific actions: 1) in support of Hawaiian independence and 2) in opposition to federal recognition.
HIAA made its official debut on December 26, 2008 at the State Capitol in response to a call by Kupuaina Coalition [www.kupuaina.blogspot.com and stopsellingcededlands.com] and Ilioulaokalani. Members of HIAA rallied at the state capitol with signs that read “NO TO AKAKA BILL” and “SEIZED NOT CEDED” in reference to lands seized by the U.S. following the so-called annexation of Hawaii to the United States in 1898.
HIAA also had a presence at the march and rally in Waikiki on January 17, 2009 to commemorate the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1893 http://www.hawaii-nation.org/soa.html. HIAA members carried the Lingle effigy, signs, and tall red and black banners with the words “Hawaiian” and “Independence” painted in white. Marchers, expressing their rage, tossed slippers at the Lingle head both in the march and at the rally. Our booth sold “Made in Occupied Hawaii” t-shirts and DVD copies of Keanu Sai’s video presentation titled “What Are Ceded Lands”. We also featured a sign up sheet for those who wished to join the group.
The names listed here reflect the original group members who agreed to form the alliance on Dec. 23. The first group of individuals named below are those who signed on at the rally in Kapiolani Park on Jan. 17. More members have signed on since then. We welcome your participation as a member. Send email to lcruz@hawaiianindependencealliance.org with your name and email address and you will be added to the list.
Honoring our Queen Liliuokalani: “The cause of Hawaii and independence is larger and dearer than the life of any man connected with it.”
